BIO

I was born and raised in the city of Belo Horizonte (Brazil). I am the first child of three of a Christian family, where I could experience the example of what it means to live in community, serving one another in the Church. During the university I came to Italy to study in Rome, where I got involved in a student ministry called GBU (Gruppi Biblici Universitari - which is part of IFES - International Fellowship of Evangelical Students). During my time in Rome I met Stefano, an Italian Christian student, who later became my husband :). After graduating in philosophy in 2012 I moved to Bologna to start a two years master in philosophy, while Stefano started working in a company. We got married in 2013 and now we live and work in Bologna. Since we arrived in Bologna we started serving at Nuova Vita Church and in 2016 I committed to serve in full-time ministry. I am currently enrolled in the Church serving in the administration and at Nuova Vita Global - the mission department - while also dedicate part of my time to the ministry among college students along with the GBU Italy.

Stefano and I are so humbled to be part of this amazing gift of God which is to be part of the Body of Christ, the Church. We long to grow in the knowledge of Christ and be equipped to serve in a lifelong ministry.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for my spiritual growth, my knowledge of the depth of God's grace;
  • For financial support of our family;
  • For this year of service and training so that all things may be done for the glory of God.

BIO

I am Stefano (24), I’m the firstborn in my family.

When I was born, my parents had already believed in the Lord for a few years, and they named me Stefano because of their faith. I grew up hearing about Jesus, I knew all about his sacrifice for all of us, I have attended camps in Isola since I was very young.  One day, when I was 13, I accepted Jesus as my Savior, but now I know that at that time I hadn’t accepted Him as my Lord.  During my adolescence, I decided to take control over my own life, I decided I wanted to behave just like all my friends around me, to know the world, having fun just like the others, not worrying about the future. It was at that moment that I started to do many things that now I am ashamed of. I got involved in some illegal things, and a couple of timesI was close to death. At that point the relationship with my parents, especially with my father, was not good, we didn’t talk to each other.

Now I see that God has been faithful, that He heard and took my prayer seriously that night at the camp. During my rebellion he was in control, he was waiting patiently, and one day He moved to call me back. It was in September 2009 that my father decided to talk to me, ask me what I thought about Isola, and asked me if I wanted to go there for a short time. As I said at the beginning, I had been to many camps as a kid, and those camps had left me with many good memories; in my heart there was still that memory of the atmosphere of joy and fun. This is why I said yes to that proposal, cause I was very curious to see Isola again. In December 2009, I arrived at the camp, and immediately I feltloved, even if I wasn’t a good Christian, and even if there were many bad things in my life. It was there that I met the Hunziker Family, (Directors of the camp) which now is my second family. After a month, during a youth camp, I felt that something in my life was wrong, I felt that God was calling me back, so I decided to ask to Joe if I could stay there, cause I wanted to change my life, but I knew that I would have no chance if I were to go back to my city. God has changed my life through that Camp and the people there. I lived in Isola for almost 5 years, developing a passion for camps, because it’s a place where you can see God changing lives. Another thing that I have developed is a passion for creative arts, and now I have been working for almost 3 years as a graphic designer.

At the moment I’m living in Bologna, attending NUOVA VITA CHURCH, and I’m doing an internship program with them. I thank God for this opportunity to be trained, and to grow in a local church, having this great opportunity to see God’s hand in people’s lives around me, in a city which we know He’s working. A year ago I also met a girl and we’re planning to get married in next June. She works with teens and refugees, trying to help them practically, butalso giving them the hope of the message of the gospel. We believe that for the moment God is calling us here in Bologna serving through media services, caring for teens and refugees and part-taking in the local Church.

If you’re reading this bio I would like to ask you,  to stop and praise God because He’s faithful. And my story as thousands and thousands of others tells again about His Glory.
I would also ask you to pray to Him and ask how you and I can serve Him to make the name of Jesus famous, because this is the reason why we’ve been called. Please pray for me, and us here in Bologna that we can be sensitive to God and His voice, serving Him not with our abilities, but with the strength of his power. We don’t know what God is preparing for us, the only thing that we know is that He has a plan, and He hasthe control, and he will be faithful to his promises.

Bio

Hi my name is Alberto, I’m 22 and come from in Sicily.  I moved to Bologna for university, and gradute in July (2015) in Political Science. In October of the same year I had the opportunity to spend three months in Atlanta, at Dunwoody Baptist Church, learning from their teaching and ministries.

This fall, (September, 2016) I have started full-time in the internship at Nuova Vita Church.

On a personal note I follow the NBA and I love to read. I love to travel and of course my greatest passion is to know God more.

Practical Ministry Involvment

Internship:  We meet as an internship group three times a week to study theology together.  This includes every Monday and Wednesday morning along with each Tuesday evening.

Nuova Vita Uni is the Student ministry that I’m part of. We gather every Wednesday evening to study the Word together as well as look at other material such as Crazy Love by Francis Chan translated into Italian.  My heart is to see young people grow in their passion for God and experience the beauty of an intimate relationship with our Creator. Students live in a very turbulent stage of life so it’s my desire to guide them to the amazing peace that we can only find in God.

I am also greatly involved in evangelism in this ministry and so I hope to be more present on the campus to reach out to more students, many of whom have never heard the gospel of grace.

Multivitamine is the Sunday morning kids’ class. I help as an assistant for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade class.  During the lessons, we use stories of the great people of the Bible to show God’s character and His great love for them. However, sometimes I feel like if I am the kid and they are the teachers.

Vite Trasformate is the ministry to reach out the women whom are under the yoke of sex trafficking and prostitution. About 80% of them come from Nigeria with the promise to find a better life. Two times a month we have an outreach and I personally contribute as driver, safeguarding the protection of those women who are serving on the street.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Faith in God. That I may seek His will first and submit to it daily.
  • I could meet more students and especially the ones God has sent here in Bologna to hear the Gospel.
  • More knowledge of the Word that can draw me to love Jesus more.
  • Manage time well and not waste it.
  • Be more courageous and kill anxiety and pride in my life.

BIO

Hi, I’m Eunice. I was born in Sicily, daughter of full time servants of God. I grew up attending many Bible camps and outreach events where Christ called me at a very young age. I studied and worked as an architect but I’ve always felt that the Lord was calling me for something different, out of the job I enjoyed and into something greater.
Last year I came in Bologna where I started to attend Nuova Vita Church and then I took the decision to leave definitely my city, my family, my church as well as the possibility to work as a freelance, in order to take up a path of theological training and preparation
for ministry with Nuova Vita Church.
Now I’m serving in the local church, preparing and prayerfully waiting on the Lord and with a desire to be involved in church planting. I love cooking, reading, swimming and traveling. I am willing and ready to follow Jesus wherever he wants.

PRACTICAL MINISTRY INVOLVEMENT

Internship -  This is my second year in the Internship Program of Nuova Vita Church. We have classes three times a week to study history and theology. Basically we meet together every Monday and Wednesday mornings and Tuesday evenings.
Nuova Vita Youth Group - with three other interns, I’m involved in discipling and training teenagers here in Bologna. During the past year, I have seen the growth of the girl I discipled and prayed for. I learned how God can change the heart and the life of young people and how they can experience the beauty of an intimate relationship with our great God. The goal for the coming months is to organize gatherings for teenage believers, their unbelieving friends and other youth that we met at the summer events that were organized by NV. Our heart is for Bologna and our hope is to bring the Gospel to as many young people and teens as possible.
Multivitamine - the Sunday morning kids’ class. I teach 3 to 5 years old. During the
lessons we tell stories of the Bible's great people to show God’s character and His
great love for them. However, sometimes it’s hard to explain in few minutes God’s plan through these stories, but this is a challenge for me and I am learning a lot from these children because of their joy and pure love for God.

Prayer Requests

  • More of Him and less of me every day.
  • That God may change my life and my heart according to His will.
  • More wisdom for the various tasks He has entrusted me with and for the ones He will lay on my path.
  • More knowledge of God and his Word that can lead me to love both Jesus and others more.
  • That the Lord may help me to understand where to focus my strength and energy in the coming months.

SALVATORE

BIO

Hi. My name is Salvatore and I am 28 years old. I was born and raised in Sardegna. I managed a coffee bar for many years and also work as a professional soccer referee. I came to faith 10 years ago in April, and have had many opportunities to serve in my local church, and even help other churches in reaching out to youth. Despite the many opportunities, I saw a great need for training, biblically and theologically, but also in many personal aspects of my character and calling. For this reason I moved to Bologna in the spring of 2016 to be part of the internship. I sense God’s call on my life to full-time ministry and believe God wants me to grow and learn

Areas of Ministry Involvement

High School ministry - For years I have been burdened for high school students, and have had various opportunity to serve with Athletes in Action. This year I was invited to preach at the national gather of Athletes in Action, and I am presently developing Nuova Vita’s youth ministry.

Teaching/Preaching - I am on the rotation for teaching on Tuesday evening prayer meetings, devotionals for the inter group, and with adolescents. I really want to grow in this area, and am passionate about the study of God’s Word.

Vite Trasformate - I serve as one of the drivers during the outreaching of Vite Trasfomate, and am burdened to pray for my sisters who go out to witness and serve these women.

Practical Service - There are many practical ways in which Nuova Vita needs help: Sunday welcome and set up crew, building maintenance, organization of outreaches for refugees and ministry to the homeless.

Prayer requests:

  • Consecration to the Lord and growth in my relationship with Him.
  • Wisdom and clarity as I pray about full-time ministry
  • Faithfulness in the ministries in which I am currently serving
  • Unity with the team of interns
  • For my desire to learn English

BIO

I grew up in Wisconsin in a family of 3 boys and 3 girls where my childhood consisted of school, sports, family, and faith. I studied Sociology at the University of Wisconsin while playing on the basketball team and in 2009, my junior year of college, I attended a Christian sports camp and was saved. A year later I took the chance to play profession basketball in Salerno, Italy. I lived and played in Salerno for 3 years where I served in a small evangelical church plant. In that period of my life God was teaching me the importance and value of being part of the local church and I found my desire to know Him on a deeper level starting to grow. In 2012 God opened the door for me to play in the city of Bologna where I started to attend Nuova Vita Church. I immediately felt peace that God lead me here to build into the youth and learn from the leadership. Last year I started to study theology in the internship program and grew tremendously in my knowledge and understanding of the gospel.

Practical Ministry Involvement

Internship: This is my second year in the internship program at Nuova Vita. We will be studying 5 different courses throughout the year 2 days a week. Along with courses I meet once a week with a mentor, a woman of the church to deepen my relationship with Christ.

Youth group: Along with the internship I also am involved in our high school ministry. 3 others along with myself are working together to try and create a fun, safe, and biblical sound environment for these teens to grow in faith. I have a heart for this ministry and long to see many teens come to know Christ. Along with youth group I am involved in one and one discipleship with a teenage girl from our church. God has used this relationship to really push me to love him and others more and is showing me the importance of shepherding someone's heart to him.

Work

I work as a professional basketball player in the city and have a huge heart for all the women and families involved in the team. I have a passion for sport and I am grateful that God allows me to play and live in a context where I can honor and glorify him by using basketball as a vehicle for the gospel.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • That I would grow in the love knowledge and fear of the Lord that he would make less of me and more of him.
  • That God would work in the lives of the people I am involved with: youth ministry, discipleship, basketball teammates.
  • That God would provide prayerfully and financially as I seek to serve.

ANDRE

ANDRE

BIO

Hello, my name is Andre' Lima. I'm a Italian citizen who was born in Brazil and I'm pleased to tell you a little bit of my history:
I belong to a third generation family of baptists... I was baptized with conviction when I was 14 and since then, I've seen God's faithfulness in leading my life in an unexpected path that is bringing me everyday in growth and maturity in the knowledge of God's.
After High School, I felt a strong calling from God to full-time ministry and started a missionary formation program where I had the opportunity to serve in different areas of Brazil. During the years of 1998-2002 I developed a social project based on discipleship of kids and teenagers in one of the biggest slums in Brazil at Belo Horizonte. From 2003-2005 I served as a Youth pastor in San Paolo. I was invited in 2007 by my former missionary agency to found a project in Perugia (Italy) but plans have changed and I've been living since then in Bologna as a member of Nuova Vita Church. I've been studying theology 2 years now at the Reformed Theological School in Brazil (on line course) and I started this very month the internship program at Nuova Vita church.

PRACTICAL MINISTRY INVOLVEMENT

I'm have the privilege of dedicating myself in four different ministry in my church in Bologna:

Sunday bible school for teenagers: I'm part of an awesome group of six other teachers who have been guiding our teenagers on knowing the Word of God and growing in His ways. It's been exciting seeing how they are answering to it developing more and a relationship with the Father! We are teaching through the Gospel of Matthew.

Vite trasformate: Twice a month we dedicate the Friday nights to pray for the women who are under the yoke of human traffic. While we pray at the church or make company to our female staffs on the streets of Bologna we are rejoicing seeing how God works miraculously rescuing lives from prostitution.

Bible study small group and fellowship: Once a week we reinforce what we have learned during our Sundays meeting at the church through a very special meeting at home. Me and another missionary lead a small group weekly in my home, to worship God and study the bible together.

Internship: I'm making part of the internship program at Nuova Vita church with the ambition of growing more and more on the theological formation to serve God with excellency.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • That I will be able to find supporters to serve God full time once again in Italy assisting as a church plant pastor.
  • I intend to get married next year, so I ask your prayers that me and my family will be able to serve the Lord as faithful workers and true worshipers.
  • That God will give me always the strength, wisdom and holiness to never loose hope but serve Him faithfully in this country.

MARKINO

MARKINO

BIO

Hello my name is Marco Martella, I’m 34.

About 5 years ago I was at the highest point of my career but the lowest of my spiritual life. But Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, showed up in my life and opened my eyes to my sin and His great forgiveness. Through the words of Matthew 6:24 - 33 the Lord called me to leave everything to follow him. It was humbling, yet God has given me the faith to believe in Him and His promises. So I trusted and I left everything and I completely trusted those words in Matthew and prayed, saying, "LORD do with me what you please." And from that moment I started to live by faith alone. It has not been all easy going. I have had very difficult moments where I found myself to have in my refrigerator one onion and a packet of pasta :)
But in all this I never felt sad. Indeed the Lord in those moments taught me to rejoice with little because the reason for my joy was not in the circumstances but beholding his glory !! So every month over the last five years the Lord has always provided for me in so many ways but I never missed any of what I need to live.

Over the last two years I realized that the Lord was calling me to serve in the ministry full-time and it was a big challenge for me because I'm a new believer in the evangelical Italian cultural context where until today a new believer does not have many opportunities to find support, but again I trusted God who has put beside me faithful men like Mark Brucato and Gianluca Derudas (New Life church pastors) who encouraged me a lot and helped me take steps of growth and training.

The last 2 years the Lord put on the heart of various brothers and sisters support me financially. And so at the beginning of August I knelt I prayed the Lord to provide for me because I had finished all my resources to pay my expenses. So I was on vacation in southern Italy with my family and I started my holidays with an accident while driving my sister's car. Thank God no one was hurt, but I was very discouraged because it destroyed my sister's car. Even though the insurance will pay us to fix it, I was very down. But just at this time that the Lord began to show me his glory many doors opening me to preach the gospel to so many old friends including Nico (high school friend) who is desperate to know God. Nico does a job as director of Hotel so he asked me to work with him to help him, but mainly because he wanted me to speak of Jesus, not only to him but also to all the people I met in the hotel for two weeks. I worked and I shared with them the gospel.

Meanwhile I received a call from Mark who told me the desire that God has put on your hearts to support me financially, and I want you to know that you are an instrument that God chose to confirm my call to full-time ministry, and am so thankful that God has chosen you for this, having heard so much about your passion for the gospel and for our Lord Jesus! As my vacation progressed I had the opportunity to preach in 2 evangelical churches encouraging believers and especially getting many encouragements from the churches and seeing the Holy Spirit at work. I could share the gospel with my older brother Matthew who is not yet a believer.
So in the next few months I will be busy with the ministry of Reflection that has the vision to encourage missions in Italian churches, and for the nation's spiritual awakening. In this ministry I carry out a service as an itinerant preacher in various churches who work and I deal with the organization of the annual conference, this year held in Milan. The desire of this ministry is to create a network between church, missions, and missionaries with the purpose of sharing resources, support each other in prayer, help each other in developing projects with the purpose of reflecting the glory of God in the nation and to the nations (to know more, please visit http://www.reflectioninaction.it/). In the meantime I will continue my training course to Nuova Vita Church in order to prepare myself to start new churches and serve the church doing evangelistic activities with adolescents, conducting Bible studies at my home and organizing events to reach the city of Bologna. And I will continue to disciple the people God has brought in my path, like David a dear friend of my old life that a year ago gave his life to the Lord through my testimony.

ILARIA

ILARIA

BIO

Hi, I am Ilaria and I am 25 years old. I was born in a Christian family in the beautiful, yet isolated island of Sardinia in Italy. The Lord saved me when I was very little, and put in my heart the desire to know Him more and to serve Him since my teenage years. Due to the limited resources and possibilities in my home church in Sardinia, I had not many opportunities to grow in my faith and I often felt discouraged to be the only believing youth in my community.

But again the Lord was gracious to me! In 2010 I went to study Archaeology and Art at the University of Nottingham in England, where I immediately settled into a very good gospel-centered church and I got highly involved in the University Christian Union (which numbered 300 believers!).

On 12.22.12 I married Emanuele and we started a life together in the UK. After many different short and medium term mission experiences all over Asia, in September 2016 we ended up joining the internship program at Nuova Vita Church.

We are really thankful for this program, as finally young Italians like us have an opportunity to get high-quality, gospel-centered and holistic ministry training that would equip them for the Lord’s work in Italy and beyond.

Practical Ministry Involvement

Internship: we take theology classes three days a week – they range from Biblical to Systematic Theology, from Church History to Character formation, from Pastoral care to Scripture.

Translations – this is the activity that takes up most of my ministry time. I am involved in translating Christian literature from English into Italian and at the moment I am working on a big project in partnership with Desiring God. The lack or the limited availability of good, theologically sound Christian literature has always been a problem for the Italian church. The translation ministry is still underdeveloped in our country, but its potential is truly huge.

Nuova Vita Global is a new born ministry at Nuova Vita church. It is basically the mission department of our church. We are a team of 5 who meet regularly to gather information about churches, missionaries and believers around the world and to share them with the wider congregation, with the purpose of prayerful and financial support. We also keep in touch with missionaries and partner churches worldwide and share our news with them. In fact, we strongly believe that cooperation among believers for the purpose of the Kingdom’s expansion is at the heart of Christian life as well as church life. Please pray for meaningful and healthy partnerships with churches around the globe and that we may work well together to make Jesus known not only in this nation, but to the ends of the Earth.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for my walk with the Lord, that I can learn more about Him and His love and grace every day and that I can be a faithful servant.
  • Pray for our marriage – Emanuele and I are facing a very painful time following the tragic death of his 21y old brother. Pray for protection, for wisdom, for unity and for learning to love each other more and more in a way that pleases the Lord.
  • Pray for a wise work/rest balance
  • Pray for God’s provision for our family
  • Pray for Italy – pray that the Lord might open the eyes of many, pray that he might change the hearts of nominal believers. Pray that Italians will leave meaningless religion and start serving the One True Savior of the World.

EMANUELE

EMANUELE

BIO

Hi my name is Emanuele. I’m 29 years old and I come from Milan.

I feel blessed when I say that I was one of the 0.9% of Italians to be born in an Evangelical Christian family. I’m the second born of four children and my family was the biggest in a church that counted no more than fifty people. So I grew up alone at the church because the closest Christian friend I had of my similar age was living 40 miles away from me, and this happens in many places in Italy. I have been working in the food business for more than 10 years and studied hospitality, being able to understand the dynamics of foods and drinks production and consumption, marketing and sales.

At the age of 24 I met my wife Ilaria in the beautiful (but without gospel centered churches) Island of Sardinia. The year after I decided to move to England as Ilaria was studying Archaeology at Nottingham University and we wanted to get married.  During this period of life the Lord created many opportunities for us to grow in our faith and to serve the local church in the UK. We clutched the opportunity to learn from a good teaching we couldn’t get in Italy, and also the Lord opened our hearts for mission. We served with OM (Organization Mobilization) in Taiwan, Nepal and Rome as short-termers. After Nottingham we moved to London, the capital city, meanwhile Ilaria was studying her Master Degree at UCL (University College London) I was working as Head Barista in a cool Hipster coffee shop in the city. The coffee shop was managed and founded by Christians with a vision of reaching the local community, share the gospel to them and worship the Lord after the business hours. To be honest I always felt as a missionary in that place rather than a “worker”. We left the beautiful atmosphere in London to serve the Lord for several months in South-East Asia. During that time we felt God’s call to Italy (our country) and we sought friends and leaders wisdom to understand if it was the right choice.

We got in contact with Gianluca, pastor of Nuova Vita Evangelical Church in Bologna and we got to know that they were just starting their first internship thanks to the involvement of teachers and pastors of different churches in the region. Ilaria and I realized that nothing like this had never happened before in Italy! And that that was the right time and place for us to get the training we needed, to study and serve the Lord practically.

PRACTICAL MINISTRY INVOLVEMENT:

  • I’m leading with other interns the Sunday School for the teenagers of the church and we are now teaching from the Gospel of Matthew.
  • I help my wife to translate books and biblical material from English to Italian. We are now translating into Italian John Piper’sDesiring God devotional: Solid Joys.
  • I am part of the new mission department of the church (Nuova Vita Global), thanks to the past experiences abroad and the contacts we have developed especially in South-East Asia, I offered my help to serve the church in this new ministry.
  • I study internship classes every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The course is very intense and subjects are many.
  • I attend with my wife a course every Monday evening called: “Basi”. It’s a course that introduces the Gospel to the new-comers. My wife and I find community development natural, and our pastors suggested that we were the right people to take this course to learn, study and one day maybe lead a similar program.

MY BIG DREAM:  As Ican use and teach how different coffee machines and equipments in a coffee shop work, in order to move forward with my dream, from January I’m planning to learn how to roast coffee and use equipments employed in a roastery. My big dreams are to support church planting, to help Christian coffee farmers in underdeveloped areas of the world (Ethiopia, Indonesia etc. . .) so they can no longer live under exploitation, to support the persecuted churches, to provide working skills to those who struggle to be integrated in the society, ALL through the coffee business - From bean to cup.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Full time church workers are not common in Italy so the job to do all goes to few. Time to rest is not much. Pray that we can find spare time to rest and enjoy our married life and don’t get too exhausted.
  • Financial support mainly comes from abroad, please pray that Italians may develop a heart for giving to church workers and to the Lord’s work in general. Please pray for our family’s support too.
  • This is one of the hardest time for me and my family, as my little brother Fabio, 21 years old, took his own life less than two months ago. He was suffering from mental illness and very often he couldn’t distinguish what was real and what wasn’t. Please pray for us, as we are still shocked by this, pray that the Lord can heal our broken hearts and minds from bad thoughts and sadness.
  • Pray for wisdom during this study course, that God can reveal to me how best I can use my skills and talents to serve Him in the best way as possible.
